Why kill a good thing when you can just word your way around it and do another sequel? According to China Daily, Mark Zoradi, president of the Disney Motion Pictures Group says:

"The third film will conclude the initial Pirates trilogy, though it is unlikely to be the last Pirates sequel,"

I think that translates to it wont be the last sequel.. with some political wordage to make the previous statements of #3 being the last true. I cant say I blame Disney for wanting to do #4 the films have made a fortune. Pirates of the Caribbean 3's film title has been confirmed for those who are behind on things. The new film will be called Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. Not alot is known about this movie accept for it will be the last of 3.

Reggie Lee ("The Fast and The Furious") has landed a supporting lead in the third installment of Disney’s "Pirates of the Caribbean" directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Lee stars opposite Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Chow Yun Fat as a villainous Pirate named Tai Huang. Lee filmed some initial scenes with Depp in April while both sequels were filming concurrently on St. Vincent in the Caribbean. He resumes filming in late August in Los Angeles and the Bahamas through 2006. "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" is due in theatres in 2007.

'Pirates' DVD To Contain Hidden Treasure 20 September 2006 (StudioBriefing)

Even though it won't be released until December 5, the DVD version of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is expected to be the year's top seller, USA Today reported today (Wednesday). Industry analyst Tom Adams of Adams Media Research told the newspaper that he expects sales of 12 million to 13 million for the movie. A collectors' two-disc version will include 10 featurettes. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented that for the "making-of" featurette, "a documentary filmmaker followed us around during the prep work, and you'll see things that went wrong, as well as the joy of the first day of filming, which is really nice."

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest has become only the third film to break through the $1 billion international box office barrier. The swashbuckling sequel - which stars Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom - now only trails Titanic and The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King in the history books. James Cameron's Titanic made $1.8 billion following its release in 1997, while the concluding part of Peter Jackson's trilogy earned $1.1 billion.

Disney's treasure chest for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is expected to swell to more than $1 billion today (Thursday) as the film continues to dominate the overseas box office and manages to attract decent business domestically as well. Only two other films have preceded Pirates into the exclusive $1-billion club, Titanic, which accumulated $1.83 billion, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which grossed $1.13 billion. Pirates principally owes its box-office success to its drawing power in the U.K., where it has so far earned $94 million, and in Japan, where it has raked in $78 million. On Tuesday, its total overseas gross stood at $583 million and its domestic gross, at $414 million.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest sailed toward the $1 billion marker in worldwide ticket sales, with its goal closely in sight. The Disney film remained the most popular movie overseas for the ninth consecutive weekend, adding $11.6 million to its booty to bring its global total to $993.7 million. It should raise that amount to $1 billion before next weekend. The film has earned $414.2 million in the U.S. and $579.5 million overseas.
